Cornerstones

The Zonta Club of Fairfax supports Cornerstones' Annual Thanksgiving food drive in November. Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.  Our club provides Thanksgiving food boxes for families in need (Cornerstones provides 1,000 such boxes each year).  Each box contains: assorted canned vegetables and fruit, olive oil, instant potatoes, stuffing, rice, muffin mix, snacks, dessert mixes, flour, sugar, and grocery story gift cards.  The boxes are provided to families in need in our local Reston/Fairfax area.

Domestic Violence Action Center

The Zonta Club of Fairfax supplies the Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC) Food Pantry each month.  The DVAC is a comprehensive, co-located service center, staffed by county agency and community non-profit partners, created to provide culturally responsive information and support services for victims of domestic violence and stalking, and their families, as well as to promote the accountability of offenders of these crimes through specialized prosecution and offender supervision.

Members take turns shopping for and delivering all supplies requested by the DVAC each month. Items requested often include food stuffs, personal hygiene, as well as diapers, formula, and other baby supplies.  DVAC has remained partially open during COVID-19. Depending on the need, instead of shopping for the pantry, our club has coordinated with the center and has provided gift cards to requested grocery stores.
